An exciting new event is planned as part of the 2016 NZSS Cross Country Championships in Rotorua. After Saturdays individual races athletes are encouraged to attend a regional relay event held at the same location. Athletes will compete in relay teams of five runners each completing a 2000m lap. Three divisions across both girls and boys grades will provide a competitive and spectator friendly event. Schools are encouraged to have their entire team attend the event in an effort to support selected athletes and to help create a festival atmosphere.

Timed Programme & Traffic Information

2 December 2015 12:08pm

Update: The timed programme has been updated. Changes and possible changes are highlighted in yellow. ‘Out’ means the heats, quarters or semi finals are not required and the highlighted numbers mean there has been a change in the number of heats.

The timed programme is now available. Please note the Open Girls and Boys 300m Hurdles and the Junior Boys 100m hurdles are unlikely to require semi finals but this will be confirmed at the managers’ meeting. The 1st round heats will be run at heat time not semi final time.

Traffic Information

There are major road works being undertaken just south of Temuka, north of Timaru, with, at times, long delays, we not sure if it will be happening Saturday, but definitely happening Friday.

An alternative route to the Timaru track if you are heading south on State Highway 1 from Temuka, Geraldine, Ashburton, Waihi Boys etc, is turning off State Highway 1 just over the second bridge south of Temuka, onto Arowhenua Pleasant Point Highway, approx 500 few meters down the road you turn left onto Levels Plain Road, (signposted to airport), follow this to the very end, passing the airport on your left, to Pleasant Point Highway (State Highway 8), turn left onto the highway and either carry on to Washdyke and State Highway 1 or else a Km or so down Pleasant Point Highway as your head east towards Timaru, you will sign a signpost directing you to Timaru West (Cartwrights Road), which you can take, follow this, turn left onto Rosewill Valley Road, and continue on this road which becomes Kellands Hill Road, travel up the hill, and this will take you all the way to Pages Road, turn left, then right onto Morgans Road which you follow until you reach Aorangi Park on your right.

The Aspiring Athletes Programme Classic Tour

Leading athletes at the New Zealand Secondary Schools are once again invited to tour and compete at the classic meetings in January 2016.
The Tour is built around the late January classic meetings in the lower north island. Athletes over the past two years have indicated that taking part in the whole tour is both advisable and rewarding.

The California Track & Field Tour 2016 is currently being organised, and expressions of interest are encouraged from New Zealand Secondary School athletes in all events. The team leaves Auckland on April 5 and returns April 25. The athletes will be based in Los Angeles and compete in meets over three weekends in Southern California. This is the sixth California Tour and many personal bests have been achieved against top U.S. high school competition in an ideal climate. For more information, contact Greg Lautenslager at the National Academy of Distance Running: (O) 03 923-2321 or (M) 027 343-5521 or via e-mail: coach@nzrunningacademy.co.nz.
