Christchurch Earthquake, South Island and North Island Secondary School Champs1 March 2011 3:52pm On behalf of the members of above associations and all the members of the NZ Secondary Schools Athletics Association the NZSSAA Executive members extend our deepest sympathy and our support to all of those who have suffered as a result of the devastating earthquake in Christchurch on February 22nd. In particular we are thinking of our athletics friends and associates who have lost family members or have had their homes and livelihoods destroyed around them. We ask all who are involved with our sport to find ways of assisting the recovery of the people of Christchurch by helping in whatever way you can to help overcome the impact the earthquake has had on their lives. As a consequence of the damage to the QE2 stadium track and facilities and the surrounding area the South Island Secondary School Athletics Championships have shifted to Timaru. Another problem for Canterbury has been the severe disruption to normal school programmes and there will be great difficulty in holding local championships or determining who might be selected to compete at the South Island championships. School Sport Canterbury is working on ways to overcome these difficulties. The North Island Secondary Schools Athletics Championships will be held at Porritt Stadium in Hamilton. The order of events and the instructions to competitors are posted below and the information to regional team organisers will be sent out through the RSD’s on 7 March. |

Invitation, Scratchings and Young Olympians8 December 2010 10:17am Please remember that scatchings from track and field events for athletes wanting to reduce the number of events they are competing in but not withdraw completely close tonight. It would also be appreciated if athletes who will not now be competing at all were scratched so that we can produce competitor lists that are as accurate as possible. NZSSAA and the Wanganui Organisers regret to announce that, due to the resurfacing of the Cooks Gardens Track, there will be no Young Olympians Coaching Camp in January 2011. There is a possibility of something later in the year but that is yet to be confirmed. |
