Definite and Possible Guideline Programme Changes

1 November 2010 11:46am

These changes are now confirmed.

The possible heats for JG/SB 3000m will swap with the possible heats for OG/OB 2000m on the Saturday following positive feedback for that change. If 3000m heats are held they will be at approximately midday and any steeplechase heats will be around 7.00 pm.

A request has been made to have heats and semis for the JG/JB 800m on the Saturday and just the final on the Sunday as occurred last year in Timaru. This would mean the heats of the 800m being held in the morning where the 1500m is currently placed, the 800m heats becoming the semis and being held a little earlier in the afternoon and the 1500m heats being held late in the afternoon.

A request has been made to have the SB javelin switch with the SB Hammer on Sunday. This is a simple shift and does not require any other events that might conflict with these events being changed. Feedback is asked for on these 2 requests please over the next 2 weeks to oe@nzssaa.org.nz

Concern has been expressed that the JG Long Jump will not be over before the SG Triple Jump is timed to begin forcing that event to be held into a head wind, assuming the long jump competitors have a following wind and that there will be wind at that time. 2 possibilities are easily available to us if necessary. The first is to delay the start of the triple jump until the long jump is concluded or begin the triple jump into the same pit as the long jump is nearing completion. The pit is wide enough to accommodate 2 events at the same time and there are 2 run ups available.

Possible Programme Switch for Steeplechase/3000 metres heats at NZSS Track,

23 September 2010 12:04pm

A suggestion has been made that the Open Girls and Open Boys Steeplechase heats, currently scheduled for late on Saturday morning be switched with the Junior Girls and Senior Boys 3000 metres heats which are scheduled for late in the day on Saturday.

The advantage of the shift is that the 3000 metres athletes will have longer to recover between their possible heats and their finals on Sunday. For those who do not qualify for the final it gives longer recovery before taking part in the road race the next morning if that’s what they decide to do. It is rare that heats are held in the Steeplechase and also quite common that the 3000 metres, particularly the Junior Girls, do not require heats either.

Comment on this possible change is invited. Please email oe@nzssaa.org.nz with your thoughts.
