50th Track & Field Championships Dinner

The New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association will be holding a dinner to celebrate the 50th running of these Championships first held in 1973 in Christchurch. This year’s championships will also be held in Christchurch to commemorate this important milestone. A dinner to mark this event will take place at the Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub Lounge and Cafe. on Friday December 8 following the end of Day 1 competition. See below for more information.

Classics Tour 2024

NZSSAA are pleased to announce that following the NZSSAA Track and Field Championships in Christchurch a Classics Tour team of individual athletes will be selected to represent New Zealand Secondary Schools. The named athletes must commit to entering and competing in at least two of Classics Meets scheduled for January and February 2024.

Australian Junior (U18) Track and Field Championships 2024, Adelaide

Expressions of interest for selection in the NZSSAA Track and Field Team to compete in the Australian Junior (U18) track and Field Championships are being called for. The Championships are being held in Adelaide, South Australia from 15-19 April 2024 (travelling on 13 April and returning 20 April 2024). Athletes looking to be selected are asked to complete the online expression of interest form by 18 December.

Assistant Team Manager/Coach Positions at 2024 ISF World Schools Cross Country Champs

Expressions of interest are called for the position(s) of an Assistant Team Manager/Coach for the NZSSAA team to the 2024 ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships, in Nairobi, Kenya from 9-14 May 2024.

These positions will be to support the head of Delegation Tony Rogers with the NZL Boys and Girls teams travelling alongside Westlake Boys and Wellington Girls team and leads. The team is expected to be away for a minimum two weeks.

Expressions of interest should be emailed to Tony Rogers, NZSSAA Chairman by Monday 13 November using tony@acesports.co.nz. Please provide a brief resume of your experience with secondary school cross country athletes and events.

Your expression of interest should be headed “WXC KENYA 2024” in the Subject line.

ISF World Schools Cross Country Teams 2024

The 2024 ISF World Cross Country is planned to be held in Kenya from 10-15 May 2024.

NZSSAA have selected one Girls School representative team and one Boys School representative team along with 6 Girls and 6 Boys as New Zealand representatives.

ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships 2024

NZSSAA are now taking expressions of interest to attend the above event to be held in Kenya 2024. Please see the attached information sheet for further details. Expressions of interest from both school teams and individuals need to be submitted by Friday 18th August.

Round the Lake Relay

The Round-the-Lake Relay 2023 will take place in Whanganui, Monday 4 September 2023. This cross country event typically attracts more than 150 teams from over 30 schools to run around the wonderful Virginia Lake on St Johns Hill. Entries close Friday 25 August.

NZSSAA Team to the Australian Schools Cross Country Championships, Canberra, 24-29 August 2023

NZSSAA is proposing to take a representative team to the Australian Schools Cross Country Championships to be held in Canberra, ACT in August 2023.
Selection in the team will be automatic for the top ten finishers in both the senior boys and senior girls events at our Championships in Palmerston North on June 17. An additional two places will be available in both the girls and boys teams for athletes who finish outside of the top ten or from the junior grades. Performance at the Athletics NZ Cross Country Championships in Taupo, 29 July, may also be considered, although the time available before departure is limited.
The dates that athletes will need to be prepared to travel and compete at the two events (age group races on the Saturday + relays on Monday) are 24-29 August. Costs per athlete will be in the vicinity of $2500 (flights ex Auckland) excluding NZ representative uniform. Top ten finishers in both senior grades at our Championships may be entitled to a $300 travel subsidy to help fund their trip.

Assistant Manager/Coach required

Expressions of interest for the position of an Assistant Manager/Coach for the NZSSAA team to the Australian Schools Cross Country Championships, Stromlo Forest Park Canberra August 24-29 2023 are called for. Expressions of interest should be emailed to Tony Rogers, NZSSAA Chairman by June 26th 2023 using tony@acesports.co.nz. Brad Smith, NZSSAA Treasurer, has been appointed Tour Manager by the NZSSAA Executive.
