Guideline Programme

4 October 2008 11:02am

Following submissions it has been decided to try a change to the placement of the Junior 800 metres and 1500 metres by holding both heats and semis of the 800 metres on the Saturday before the heats of the 1500 metres. This creates the same scenario that the Seniors have and makes a 800/1500 double a little more possible than previously and also provides more certainty for those deciding to go for just the 800 metres or the 1500 metres. It also removes the 800 semis from Sundays programme allowing more recovery time for the final. This is a trial for this year and will be reviewed. The Junior Girls 3000 metres heats have been changed to later on Saturday to accommodate the change to the 1500 metres heats time.

We advise coaches/managers to be very careful about having top athletes trying to achieve double titles. Qualifying can be very demanding and athletes risk missing out altogether because of excessive fatigue. The health and well being of athletes should always be uppermost when making these decisions.
