Scratchings

29 November 2013 2:07pm

Scratchings close 4 December at midnight. After that time any scratching means removal from the Track and Field Championships. This does not apply to the Road Race.

Login and open Current Entries. If you want to scratch the person completely select remove. If you want to take out single events select clear beside the event. Contact oe@nzssaa.org.nz if you are still having problems.

Timed Programme

29 November 2013 2:05pm

The timed programme for the Track and Field championships is now available.

The following events are straight finals at finals time:
  • Junior Girls, Junior Boys and Senior Girls 3000m
  • Senior Girls 1500m
  • Open Girls 2000m Steeplechase
  • Para Athletes 100m, 200m, 400m
  • Open Boys 300m Hurdles no semi finals required; heats and finals only
  • Senior Girls 100m, 200m no quarter finals required
  • Senior Boys 110m Hurdles, Senior Girls and Junior Boys 100m hurdles have heats and finals only

800m finals will be held before the lunch break on Sunday

The Senior Boys Long Jump has been brought forward from 2.30pm to 1.30pm on Sunday. The Senior Boys and Junior Girls Long Jump are large fields of 50 athletes each. Athletes in these 2 events are asked to marshal 40 minutes prior to their event start time rather than the usual 30 minutes.

There are a high number of entries in the 4×400m Relays. As we do not have heats in this event the races are run in divisions and it is NZSSAA policy that only 2 divisions per grade be allowed, i.e. 16 teams. We ask team managers to realistically calculate whether their team is capable of achieving a top 12 placing and if not, consider scratching from the event. Teams scratching before 12.00 noon Sunday 8 December will have their entry fees refunded.

Guideline times for a top 12 placing:
  • Junior Girls 4:48.0, 72 secs per runner
  • Junior Boys 4:00.0, 60 secs per runner
  • Senior Girls 4:24.0, 66 secs per runner
  • Senior Boys 3:40.0, 55 secs per runner

Summer Steeplechase Workshop

20 November 2013 9:51pm

Are you a middle distance runner keen for a bit of a change? Steeplechase is very undeveloped as an event group in New Zealand and is a great alternative for anyone with experience racing middle distance or cross country who is interested in exploring another discipline.

Athletics NZ will be conducting a workshop for athletes and coaches in conjunction with the Lovelock Classic in Timaru. The workshop itself will begin at 2pm Friday 3 January, with an opportunity for athletes to compete the following day over 2000m or 3000m steeplechase distances. A second session and meeting is to be scheduled in conjunction with the Porritt Classic with details to follow shortly. Some funding is available to assist in travel for those who compete at both the Lovelock and Porritt Classics.

Contact Athletics NZ Performance Coach Maria Hassan for more details. mariah@athletics.org.nz 021 226 6874
