New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships20 June 2022 4:00pm The 48th New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross-Country Championships and the 6th New Zealand Secondary Schools Regional Cross-Country Team Relay Championships will be held at the Saxton Field Sports Complex Stoke Nelson, 18-19 June. Results If any errors are noticed (e.g. incorrect spelling of names or running order in the relay results) please contact oe@nzssaa.org.nz. Note: A Napier Girls’ High School Year 9 athlete’s finish was missed by the electronic timing system and she has now been added in 45th place. This change has meant an alteration by 1 place for all athletes from 46th position onwards and has created a change in the 3-person teams finishing order with Napier Girls’ High School moving into 4th place from 5th originally. In the Year 9 Girls race 3rd and 4th places have been changed to 3rd equal. As a result the Wellington College winning 3 person team have improved their total by 1 point to 42 points.

Announcement of Event Ambassador22 May 2022 10:00pm The Nelson LOC is delighted to announce that Phil Costley has accepted the role as Event Ambassador for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships being held in Nelson on 18-19 June 2022. During his long and distinguished career, Phil’s 33 New Zealand titles are more than any other runner – in fact he has won a senior New Zealand title in every running event from 3000m to 100km in both track and field, cross-country, mountain and road disciplines. What has to be a unique claim, and one that is so special with Phil being our Event Ambassador, is his best result at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships was just 34th, yet he went on to gain 30th place in the World Cross-Country Championships. Phil is an inspiration to all our young athletes. In his role as Event Ambassador, Phil is looking forward to meeting as many of our athletes as he can over the two days. We’ve given him a “roving” role throughout the event for that very purpose. Phil is currently a mathematics teacher at our Host School, Nelson College. |
