Expressions of interest are now open for the 2025 NZSS Track and Field USA tour. Please note a deposit of $250 is required as part of the expression of interest. This will be refunded to those athletes who are not selected. Payments need to be made to account number 03-0791-0598976-002 referencing your surname. North Island Champs age group changes
The date for determining age grades at the North Island Champs has changed from being under a particular age on January 1 to December 31 in the year of competition. This change has been made to align with World Athletics, Athletic NZ and NZSSAA using December 31 as the determining date for all their age grades. See the attached for further information. |

NZSSAA Inaugural Road Relay Festival, Pakuranga, Auckland, Thursday 5th & Friday 6th September [WTW]
New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association will hold its first two-day Road Relay Schools Festival Event during this year 2024 Winter Tournament Week hosted by Pakuranga Athletics Club with the event hub being at the Pakuranga Sailing Club, Howick Auckland. Results Event information The event is only a team event with relays for Individual School Teams on day 1 [Thursday afternoon] and for Interprovincial Regional Teams [like Cross Country] on day two Friday morning. There is a planned student welcome dinner on Wednesday evening – see details below. Both relay events will be 4 person teams running a total of 10 km.

Assistant Team Manager/Coach Positions at 2024 Australian All Schools Cross Country Champs
Expressions of interest are called for the position(s) of an Assistant Team Manager/Coach for the NZSSAA team to the 2024 Australian All Schools Cross Country Championships, in Melbourne, Victoria from 19-24 August 2024. NZSSAA will be looking to appoint at least one female for this role. These positions will be to support the head of Delegation Brad Smith with the Boys and Girls teams. Expressions of interest should be emailed to Tony Rogers, NZSSAA Chairman by Monday 2nd July using tony@acesports.co.nz. Please provide a brief resume of your experience with secondary school cross country athletes and events. Your expression of interest should be headed “AUSXC 2024” in the subject line. New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association are proposing to take a New Zealand Schools representative team to the 2024 Australian Schools Cross Country Championships to be held in Yarra, Victoria, Australia. Yarra is approximately 1 hour from Melbourne. |
South Island Schools Cross Country
The South Island Schools Cross Country was held at Ashbury Park, Timaru on Sunday, May 26th. Over 200 athletes participated across the various races and more than 40 schools were represented. Three weeks out from NZSS Cross Country was the perfect time for South Island runners to race hard over a challenging course in cold, but excellent conditions. Individual results are below. There were also 3 person teams results in all of the races and Shields for the top schools. Local schools Timaru Boys’ and Craighead Diocesan were able to claim these and Fairfield from Dunedin were the standout Intermediate school winning both boys and girls overall best school. |
NZSSAA Team to the 2024 ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships, Nairobi, Kenya, 9-14 May 2024
Congratulations to our team who competed at the World Schools Cross Country Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. The competition format was changed from past events where there had been races for individual athletes representing their country and races for athletes representing their selected school. This year everyone ran in age grade races for girls and for boys. Our athletes, who were selected according to the previous format, performed well in very competitive circumstances. Juliet Moorhead placed 22nd in the U15 event. The New Zealand Girls team placed 6th overall in the U18 event. The individual results were: The New Zealand Boys team placed 5th overall in the U18s.
