NZSSAA Track, Field and Road Race Championships, Newtown Stadium, Wellington December 6-8 2019

28 November 2019 8:00am

The following changes (in red) have been made to the programme:

In order to avoid a clash of High and Triple Jumps for the Junior Boys the Junior/PA Boys and Junior/PA Girls High Jumps have been swapped. The boys will now compete on Sunday at 9.00am and the girls on Saturday at 3.30pm. This also improves the spread of jumps for the girls.

As a result of interest in having mixed girls and boys 4×400m relays the NZSSAA Executive has decided to trial this as a pilot event for both grades for 2019/20.

Conditions of entry:

  • Teams are to made up of 2 boys and 2 girls
  • Any individual school team or a combined team from two single gender schools within the same region (as defined for the Cross Country Relay Championships) may enter
  • Schools combining to enter a team are asked to email that information to oe@nzssaa.org.nz
  • Only 1 team per grade from each school or combined schools may enter
  • An athlete may only compete in one 4×400m relay

Schools entering teams in the 4×400m relays are asked to please consider carefully the number of events their athletes are involved in and the possibility that they may be overloaded by doing relays in addition to their individual events.

AGM Reminder

15 November 2019 8:00am

The NZSSAA AGM will follow the managers meeting which begins at 11.00am at the Newtown Park Stadium. If you have remits for the AGM please email them to the President, Tony Rogers by Thursday November 28. Nominations for Service to Secondary School Athletics are also welcome if they could be emailed with a brief citation to John Tylden. These are for people who have contributed many years (approximately 20 or more) of support and effort to young people taking part in our sport and who deserve recognition for all they have done. Our Association has been running for 48 years and people who have been active in the past but are no longer involved should also be considered for nomination. A list of service awards already made can be seen by visiting this page on our website scrolling down the page.

Child Protection in Sport E-Learning Course

28 September 2019 9:20am

Safe Guarding Children have recently launched a Child Protection in Sport eLearning course.

The Child Protection in Sport course has been developed for all sporting codes and organisations from professionals to volunteers. The course includes information directly relevant to the sporting sector such as professional standards and side-line behaviour and has sport-related quizzes and videos. Safe Guarding Children worked with child protection in sport specialist Leanne Couch (formerly Sport Manawatu and Sport England) to develop the content and ensure it would resonate with and engage a sporting audience.

With New Zealand having one of the highest participation rates for children in sport in the world, adults involved in sport have a special and hugely important role to play in creating safe environments and recognising and responding to potential child abuse and neglect.

Safeguarding Children also deliver seminars and workshops, Child Protection Policy development and consultancy work if you are interested.
